Project P.R.E.P.
Preparing, Reaching, and Educating Providers
In rural Haiti, the gap between finishing a nursing program and passing the state licensure exam can be where a career stalls out. Project P.R.E.P. was built to close that gap.
Project P.R.E.P. is a two-week nurse residency program in Pignon, Haiti, built for nurses who have finished their training and are getting ready for state licensure. The program uses team-based learning, simulation, and hands-on clinical practicum to strengthen the skills nurses need on day one of practice: assessment, therapeutic communication, and the judgment calls that come with managing chronic and communicable disease. Nurses spend their days in a mix of classroom instruction and clinical scenarios, working through the same kinds of cases they'll face in the hospitals and clinics where they'll eventually work.
The program runs in partnership with Université d'État d'Haïti and Hôpital Bienfaisance de Pignon, the same institutions that anchor HEAL Haiti's other programs in the region.
Highlights
Simulation-Based Learning
Nurses practice on real clinical scenarios before they ever face them with a patient, from infection control to maternal and pediatric care.
State Exam Preparation
A dedicated track walks nurses through the concepts and question formats they'll see on the licensure exam, with review sessions built into the schedule.
Clinical Practicum
Ten hours of hands-on practicum time, so what nurses learn in the classroom gets tested in the room with a patient.
